Report Link to a specific report

  • 1.  Report Link to a specific report

Hello, I want to create two report links above my tasks view on my projects table.  I want them to display a report of cancelled and completed tasks respectively.

My Projects table is related to my tasks table (A project has many tasks)
It views on the projects table all of the active/open projects.

I created two fields for report links set to match the project number (my key) to "related project" in the tasks table.  The link works and takes me to the appropriate task list, but it defaults to my default table view.  How do I set it to show my report showing only completed or cancelled tasks?

Just make your perfect report showing the columns on the sort that you want filtered only on say completed tasks.

Then go to the form properties for that report link field and instead of letting it use the default report, use instead that report that your built.

I suggest when you build the report that you make it viewable by no roles at all, and give it a name like "used on projects for completed tasks"

That way nobody (including you!!) will accidentally change the report and repurpose it for another use.

I dont get that option when I want to maintain a "link".  I didnt want them to show on this form, just link to the report.  When I select link I cannot pick what form to use.  As a temporary workaround I used a section heading set to collapse and am display the reports under that collapsed section heading.  But I really just wanted a link to open in a new tab.

Well the no code solution would be to put a tab on your form for canceled and completed tasks and put those reports on that tab.
But I will post back to this thread with some syntax you can use to make a URL to run a report of the tasks that are related to that project.

OK, so if you want to make a URL formula which will behave as a report link with a filter, here we go.

Make a perfect report of Completed tasks, but make it use the <ask the user> feature for a filter on the Project.
Then run the report and answer the question using any project and observe the URL.  That URL is what we need to replicate in code.

    URLRoot() & "db/" & [_DBID _TASKS] & "?a=q&qid=99&nv=1&v0=" & [Record ID#]

So that says go to my company's URL
and then to the tasks table as obtained from the advanced properties of the tasks table
and then the ? means that the internet has delivered the click to your table and now we are talking to QuickBase,
and action = query (ie run a report)
and the report # (query ID) is ... whatever you see in the URL for the query ID#, ie the report # and the number of values to be supplied is 1 (nv=1)
and the answer to the zeroth question (its starts numbering at zero) is the [Record ID#] of the project we are on.

Thanks Mark.  That doesnt look too bad as long as I make sure I grab that project ID properly.  With that being said I think I will go with the KISS method though and just leave it with the collapsed section header.  It keeps it clean ad easily available.
