Yes, you can make a Report called perhaps "Used for Grid Edit on XYZ form" with the extra columns.
Then put the Report Link field for the embedded report on the form twice, and one will be in view and then other will be in Edit / Add mode. Specify the Grid Edit Report for the Edit / Add mode.
