I've implemented more of a Audit Table, which through automations gets populated when fields change... it captures the table/field that was updated, original value, new value, the user and timestamp of change...
This should avoid the issue of form rules/grid edit. Just my 2 cents.

I created a history field in QuickBase, this is essentially a multi-line text field that is supposed to log all changes/edits made on the form along with the user who made the change.
