Do formulas always run?

I have a formula that runs based on what date it is. Will that formula fire as soon as the date hits, or only if I open the record on edit mode?

    Q:

    Do formulas always run?

    A:
    Yes

It's a bit like Excel where if the app is open, then the formulas are running, but that also applies to say Subscriptions in the middle of the night where the app has to be woken up off a sleepy hard disk somewhere , load to memory and then she's live,  baby, live.

Can it trigger an automation to fire?

i.e. I'm in bed sleeping. Date changes. One field changes dates based on a formula. Automation fires.

Does it work like that? Can i use my trigger being a field is modified, or is it not really being modified if not in edit mode?

No, you cannot trigger an Automation to run based on a formula field changing.
Automations run when a record is Added, edited or deleted or else they run overnight on a schedule.

    Mike,

    Look at Juiced Technology

    www.juicedtech.com

They have Scheduled Triggers.  You set when you want the Trigger to look at your Quick Base data and it will execute against the records that have been changed by the formula.

I use this with 100% of my customers.   Cannot live without it now.
