Group's Records: Is the online documentation slightly inaccurate?

In the online documentation on the topic "Configure Permissions for the Role" there's a table-entry that describes what happens if permissions are set to "Group's Records." The entry says: "Grants view or modify rights to only those records created by a user belonging to a group ..."

Would it be more accurate to say: "Grants view or modify rights to only those records whose record owner is a member of a group ... "? Is that what actually happens?
  • The user who Created the record gets recorded in the system generated field called [Record Owner].

    So yes, you are correct.

I know. But if the record owner is later changed, the permission goes to the group of the new record owner, not the original creator? That's my question.
  • I believe so, but I have never tested that myself.  I have never heard of another place where the Original Record creator is stored and it would be hard to fathom that Permissions could possibly be based on a data element which cannot be viewed by users or Admins.

I opened a case on this topic, got the following reply, then asked to have the online documentation clarified or corrected according:

    Hey Alex,

It should match the group of the current record owner. So if you change the record owner of a record, it should adjust which group can view the record if they are different.
