Sorting Months Chronologically not Alpha

I have a formula text field that I created from a date field. The formula text field displays the Month and Year generated by the date field. i.e. 3/1/2017 becomes March 2017. I am using the March 2017 field in reports, but can't sort chronologically.

    Can you have the sort by the [date] field, even though its not in the report?
