User change when automation is run

When I run an automation that looks at a "user", it gives me this: Carlo <6#######.bqhf>

(# sign are various numbers)

How do I convert that so it's just a user?

    What are you trying to do in the Automation? Can you share a screenshot of the step that generates this?
