  • 1.  Delete Sample Data"" button on the home page. How do I remove it?

I have inherited an app (4-5 years old) with a "Delete Sample Data" button on the home page. How do I remove that button or what would happen if I selected it?

When on the Home Page, there should be a "Customize this Page" link at the right and near the top.

Following the link, there should be an option to remove the button.

Thanks, yes, I saw that edit option on the Home page, it allows me to edit one of three buttons we added that allow records to be added.  However there are no options on editing or deleting the the "Delete sample data" button.

This "delete sample data" button is in fact on the same line as the three options of import/export, print and customize this page.  The actual delete sample button is orange back-ground (and not the green back-ground of our own buttons that can be edited.

    Unfortunately, still stuck.

It looks like the button will disappear after it is used once.  I tested on a sample i just downloaded.  According to the following link, it will not delete anything but sample data.  http://www.quickbase.com/user-assistance/create_database_from_template.html

I would back up all of your data then click the button since you cannot be sure it will not delete what it should not.  If it does delete all, you can restore with your back up.

Or, you can just leave it there.

Another option would be to open a support case.

Oh, thank you that's a great reference.  I'll back it up and give it a try.  Much appreciated.

I see the date on this is very old but if anyone comes across the problem, the answer is that you have to hit the "Delete Sample Data" button as the Administrator.  It then goes away for every other role and never comes back.

Create a copy of your app, try it and find out, then come back and tell the rest of us :)

I would definitely agree with Alex that the best test is to create a copy and see what happens to your data when you push the delete sample data button. In general they should only delete sample data that hasn't been edited and doesn't delete any added records but sometimes there is a mix in a table and that can create some confusion, so testing it out in a copy lets you know for sure what it will do to your specific data set.

Ok, I'm less unsure at this point than when I asked the question. I made the copy as suggested and I'm glad I did. First, I edited items on the original and made sure I made changes or just hit save when I was in the edit function on any items I wanted to make persistent. After I hit "Delete sample data" it did delete anything that was related to "user" task data in my KanBan App. But it also deleted any data related to things like icon information that you would assign to each task type down to the URL info that each icon was associated with. I didn't expect that. Just to summarize it looks like this is a big hammer action and goes deep into what data it removes. Tread lightly as my app would have been almost unusable if I didn't have the copy.
