I have a table called Proposals where we track our consulting efforts.

We write a proposal for one set of work, but often, in the middle of a sale a client wants to add scope to the project (a change request).

When this happens, we create a new proposal to add scope to their project. We want to be able link the second effort (change request) to the original proposal. To do this, I would like a drop down list of proposals that the client has already done so that when our team has a change request, they can select the original Proposal.

When I create a relationship to the Proposal table itself, I don't get an option to select anything. I just get a blank text field that isn't editable.

Can anyone help me?

This should work as I have done it many times. You create the relationship and QB will create the field for you called Related proposal. Get that part working first. Then once that is working edit the field properties of the [related proposal] field to have its choices be Conditional, so that you can filter the choices to just the ones where the [Related Client] is the same.
