Calculating queue for pending requests.

I have a table with a list of projects. They have a status field. I would like to determine the Queue based on FIFO. So the project will have a record ID of XXX (lets say 150), but there are only 18 projects with record ID lower than 150 which are not marked as complete or aborted. I need the value of the Queue # field to be 19. So essentially as projects get closed or aborted, I want the field [Queue #] to change depicting how many project requests are ahead. I tried to create a relationship with the same table (Projects to Projects) but the summary field is returning 0. Any help would he highly appreciated.

I believe the only way to do this is to make a formula numeric field with a formula of 1. Call it Project Queue Rank.

Then do a Summary report but group by Record ID. Of course include your filters of open projects. Include that Project a queue field and set it to show as a running total.

I was able to create a summary report with a running total however, I cannot display it on the forms or other reports. There's no way to lookup the value from a summary table (with running total).

My "solution" is the only way I know. I'm pretty sure there is no way to get at the Rank in a real field.
