Can drop-down boxes be used to refine a search within a record picker?

I'm making an order form for mechanical parts.  I have a database (table) of parts, with each field in this table corresponding to a characteristic of the part in question.  I also have another table for the orders, where each record corresponds to an order (and quantity etc.) for a single part.

The one-to-many relationship between parts and orders has been set up - so any time an order is placed, the correct master part for that order can be selected by the user.

Here's where my question comes in: instead of having the standard record picker for selecting the master part in a particular order, I'd like to give the user the option of refining a list of the parts according to their characteristics.  Ideally, this would be using drop down boxes to select filters for each of the fields in the parts table, with a list of part records updating as these selections are made - after which the user can select the one they want.  Would it be possible to do this kind of thing?

I have a technique to do this which I can show you in a demo to rapidly select parts for an order using the full search and dynamic capabilities of the usual QuickBase reports.  But while it's all native QuickBase, the scope of th setup is beyond what is practical to detail on this forum.  Please contact me off line via the contact information in my profile if you would like a demo
