You can have a button to do this; or you can use a Form Rule to act on a value change to populate the user field with the current user.

URLRoot() & "db/" & Dbid() & "?act=API_EditRecord&apptoken=xxxxxx&rid=" & URLEncode([Record ID#])

& "&_fid_XX=" & URLEncode(User())

& "&rdr=" & URLRoot() & "db/" & Dbid() & URLEncode("?a=dr&rid="&[Record ID#])

You may also want your rdr (redirect) to go somewhere else.

Remember also that you have a [Last Modified By] field which captures the last person to change the record, and a [Record Owner] field to capture the record originator.

You cannot move files from file attachment fields within or to another table.  You can only use formula fields to link to the file.  The link can be accessible from anywhere, even if there is not a relationship join; but you have to know the Record ID# or Key Field value of the record where the File Attachment is stored in the table you click the button from.
