Dynamic rule: display message not popping up

So I created the following dynamic form rule:  when record is openend and a checkbox is ticked, display a message.

The silly thing is that it only displays the message when i go into edit record.  It doesnt come up with the message when I simply view the record.  This is what I am trying to acheive:

Customer has a bad payment reputation.  I want to check a box in his customer record.  each time one of the staff want to create a new job for this customer, they must be alerted to the fact that he is a poor payer and must opt for cash.

Am i missing something?

I don't think that will pop up a message unless the record is in edit mode.

I suggest a formula text field with HTML enabled.

IF([Bad Credit checkbox]=true, "<b><font color=red>C.O.D.  C.O.D.  C.O.D.")

Is there no way to have a pop-up window display?

I'm my experience, pop-up windows for reminders like this become very obnoxious to the end user, and using a red or highlighted banner is more more user friendly, while still getting the message across.

Hey Matthew, I'm interested in this, however I have no idea how to execute it.  Could you help me out?

Mike,
Are you just asking now to make a giant red message?

for example, you can make a formula text field like

IF([Bad Credit]=true],
"<font color=red><b><font size=4>Bad Credit!!")

Just tried it, and all it does is add this in the field:

<font color=red><b><font size=4>SPECIAL SNOWFLAKE!!

I'm trying to make it conditioned based on the input of another field.  And I would like for it be view on both the "View" and "Edit" screens when initially opening those screens from another area or an external link.

On top of all of this, I'm not a developer, and just now learning formulas.  ;)

Sorry, but I do not understand the question now.

The examples above let you make a formula field based on a condition.  What is the condition?

http://help.quickbase.com/user-assistance/form_rules_based_on_record_state.html

QuickBase lets you trigger a rule based on the state of the record being edited. You can choose to trigger the rule:
  • when the record is opened

  • when the user clicks Save

  • after the user clicks Save and QuickBase has checked that all required fields are complete

So to answer your question - " not natively".

Any non complex HTML code that can do this?

Yes, Mark provided it in this first reply.

That's not a pop up window HTML code. It simply displays the text in red on the page, at least that's what happened when I tried it

You could add a title attribute to an <a> tag that  when hovered over showed the field value as a miniature display in a "tool tip."
