Form rule not triggering when date is prior to current date

I have a date field in a form  (not required) "Completion Date".  After it is filled in, another field Kick-off Date which is a formula date field uses the Completion Date and subtracts x,y, or z days from the Completion date to determine the Kick-off.  If the Kick-off date calculated is a date prior to "current date" +0, I want the abort save to occur.  I have the the dynamic form rule set up (save after checking) and the kick-off date is before the current date +0 but it doesn't work.
