i have a formula-numeric field called "confirmed price" in which the value is calculated based on other fields such as [retail price] and [discount amount]. the [retail price] is a lookup field and the [discount amount] is a manual entry field. both fields can change in the future, therefore changing the value in [confirmed price].

without using reverse lookups and the snapshot feature, i'd like to freeze the original value in the [confirmed price] within a separate field. this separate field could be called [original confirmed price]. i'd like the [original confirmed price] to capture and freeze the value found in [confirmed price] when:

[date acquired] = today()

Just a thought but you could try using an append field to capture the price, then in the record you want to freeze, edit the properties and make it read only from the form customization or inside the field properties "Restrict Access by Role" and change the field to View or None for users that are not admins.
