In my app a Company can have many Projects. On the Project table there is a 'Project Type' dropdown.

I would like to create two summary fields on the Company table that shows the most and second most frequently used Project Types associated with each company. What is the easiest way to do this?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that you will struggle to summarise to two individual fields the way you describe (someone else can correct me) but I'll take a look into that a bit.

However, there is another way to show this information (which may be more useful to you) by embedding a simple Summary Report on the "Company" form.

1) Create a new Summary Report in your "Projects" table (call it Project Type Summary) which summarises the "# of Projects" and groups by "Project Type". Change the sorting to Custom and sort by "# of Projects" from high to low. You can turn off any dynamic filters if you like as they are not relevant. Save your report.

2) Customize the Company form and add a new Form Element for "Projects" (you may already have one which shows all related Projects of this Company but Quickbase allows you to show Child records in more than one place on a form). Select "Display the related system lines directly on the form" and choose the report you created from the drop-down "Base the display on the report:". Set the number of rows to display as 2. Save your form.

Thanks, David! This is pretty much what I initially set up but it is getting very complicated as the # of project types is growing. I was hoping that there was a shortcut I was missing, like a Maximum occurrence summary field for text values.

I would love for that feature in the future.
