I have a date field in a child record and have created a relationship between the child and parent with the date field from the child as the lookup field for the parent record but, the field displays as blank.  How can I fix this?

Are you saying that the date field from the Parent record is not appearing in the child record?  If that is the question, then there are two things to check first.  Look at the field properties for the lookup field to confirm which field it is pulling from in the parent record and make sure that field on an example parent record has data.

The next thing to check is if your child records are actually connected to the parent record.  Typically the relationship will have a child field names like [Related Parent],  and that will be the [Record ID#] of the Parent record.  Does that field have a value on an example child record?

The date field is actually in the child table.  I created a relationship - child has many parents and I added the date field as a lookup field for the parent table.  But when I bring that field into the parent table, it's blank.
But if you have 10 children, how would it know which date to use?  I suspect that the reference field on the right side of your relationship is empty.

I think that's my problem exactly.  If I add the reference field as a look up field, I can find the child record and then the date populates in my date field.  Is there a way to fix this so that I wont' have to manually select the child record every time?
But if you have 10 children with 10 different dates, which one do you want to choose to populate the Parent?

Can you kill that whole backwards relationship and on the regular relationship just use a summary field like a summary maximum or minimum of all the dates s on the children.
