I'm ultimately trying to summaries the Record Owner field to know how many records each user is creating, but I can't seem to figure out how to assign each record owner a numeric value. I'm assuming I need to do this because otherwise it doesn't show up as an option when I try to summarize it (attachment). Is there an easier way to do this that i'm overlooking? Thanks!

If you want to make an actual Summary field for the Count, then set the Summary field to Count and not to Total.  There is a radio button just above the one that you have selected to click to just count as opposed to Total.

Thanks Mark, The parent table to the one i'm trying to summarize has unique users that i'm trying to roll the [record owner] summary up into. The count feature only counts those records that are directly related to child records of the parent. However, I need to count the record owners across all the child records and roll it up into a single parent record (based on a user field). Does that help or did I make it worse:)? Thanks
What is the Key field of the Parent table of unique Users.  It needs to be the User field.  Then your relationship will work.

I changed the key field to the unique user. However, when I summaries the child table, it counts the number the records for each instance of the parent table's user field (key field) and not the [record owner] field. The [record owner] field doesn't have an ID # associated with it so there is no way to relate it to the parent table. right? Thanks again!
How about you give me a call using the tel# in my profile and i will sort you out.
