Some of my reports dont have enough records to warrant a search and its annoying to see it there.   I've looked but can't find out how to get rid of it???

If you have Dynamic filters enabled, then that cannot be suppressed.

But if you have Dynamic filters set to none, then the so called Quick Search field is controlled by this checkbox

"Allow users to search using the Quick Search field."

That's a pity.... The Dynamic Filters are useful, although not entirely necessary they provide an added extra for the customer...   Now I know   :)   (and no javascript!)

It's not a pity - it is a party. Just use script:

$("#facetKeywordForm").hide();

oh!  By jove, I think I did it.   I just replaced the demo alert box with that script after adding the [-] to the report.  +1 for javascript LOL!   :)

Using script is not as hard as Mark would make you believe!
