How to allow a report in a child table to display one lookup field from the restricted parent table without breaking the role restrictions working on the parent table?

I have two tables.  One is People and the other is Events.  The relationship is One Person has Many Events.  The user access to view the People table records is limited to the current user.  That is I can only see my People record.  The Event table has a calendar report  that displays a lookup field of the person's name.  The problem I'm running into is that because I only want the user to be his/her record in the People table, they can now no longer see other peoples' names on the event calendar.  This is because they no longer have access to view it in the People Table.  I tried creating a new field in the child table that displays the name in the lookup field as text field, but unless the user has permissions to it in the parent table, all they see is "invalid" in that new field. I need suggestions on a better way to work around this.  How would I allow users to view a single lookup table from the related table without breaking the access restrictions that I already have set up on the parent table?  Any suggestions are appreciated.  Thanks!

As an update,  I resolved it on my own.  The solution was to create a new user field in the child table that auto updates with with a form rule when the form is saved.  I then placed that new field into reports and formulas as needed in the child table.  Not sure if that is the best way to do it, but it is working for me now.  If there are better methods, I would be interested in knowing those solutions as well.  -Thanks!
