Are you looking to make a formula which combines these two dates Ina text format?  What do you mean by auto populated?

Field A has 5/22/2016 in Row 1 and Field B doesnt have any date. In Row 2 Field A has no date, but Field B has 2/22/2016.
In Field C i want 5/22/2016 in Row 1 and 2/22/2016 in Row 2.
My Requirement is like below:
             Field A       Field B         Field C
Row 1   5/22/2016        -         5/22/2016
Row 2        -            2/22/2016 2/22/2016

What if there is a date in both columns?

The formula would be

IF(not isnull([Field B]),[Field B],[Field A])

If there is a value in both fields, then it will use Field B.
