How to format a multi-line text field to look like a table.

I would like to have the look of a nested table.  It is simple and only needs to be two columns.  I want people to be able to enter next steps and dates into a text field in an organized way.  I don't need to be able to do anything but display the entered data, so I don't want to have to create another table.

Is there a way to do this without creating and linking a new table?

Thank you for your time.

It's a little difficult to understand what you are asking for.  Can you describe with examples using your real data and what the table or tables are?

If the setup, for example is that 1 Project has many "Next Steps", then yes I do suggest a second table for the Next Steps, but you can do that data entry in Grid edit format on the Parent project record, but using an embedded report of the children Next Steps on the parent form and setting the field properties for that embedded child report to be editable.  Then they can be edited, and added in grid end mode - and the children can even be added at the same time the project is being created.

Thank you for your prompt response.

Each record is an update and the field in quesiton is a brief summary of next steps and the dates associated with the steps.  I would like the text entered into the multi line text field to appear formatted into rows and columns to provide a consistent look across all entries.  I do not need to have any of the funcitonality of a table, just the look.  Is there a way to insert an html table into the field that also allows the user to enter data?
The only native way to get data entry into tidy rows and columns is to use a child table.

But, if you for some reason want to avoid a child table, There are a couple of QuickBase third party providers who offer "Rich Text" input into a field. So full "word-like" data entry with indenting and bullets and paragraph numbering. I know that Juiced has one and I think there is at least 1 more that has such a product.

There is a demo here from Juiced http://www.quickbasetools.com/#!htmleditor/c1wl3
