Are you saying that you accidentally deleted a Parent Record and now there are children which are "orphaned"?

no, here's the longer explanation I was trying to put into my question:

I have a table called "Assembly master" that has the current various values used to determine pricing for an item we well.  I also have a rule that writes these adjustable settings to a different table "Quotes" so my sales people can see what changed from estimating to cause the new price.  I want the ability to restore these settings stored in Quotes back into the Master record.  I have a specific problem because although making an action would work well, it doesn't allow editing of an existing record when the relationship is Many back to One.

Steve,
This sounds like a situation which will need someone to have a look at your app with you. Alternatively, you will need to better explain your relationships and explain what you mean by a Rule. Do you mean a form rule?

Are you looking for a button to push to restore the saved values in Quotes to the current value in the Master?

Sorry, a bad choice of words.  I was trying to describe that I have used the Actions feature to create an action that copies the user variables to the other table when the total value changes (i.e. if anything changes the price, capture the previous settings).  I can't accomplish the write back to the master record.  Any method would be great, a button being among them.  I have a checkbox field to select the record to be written back.

Happy to have someone look at my app with me, just let me know.

Steve, I’m actually away this week but if you want you can contact me via the contact information in my website and I can have a look at your app next week. QuickBaseCoach.com.

Alternatively, if you can explain more clearly what you need help with we can try to continue here.

If you are looking to have an Action automatically write back to a Parent Record, you can make a Report Link field to indicate which record to be edited.. then use that Report Link field in your Action.

For example, to match up on the left side if the Report Link field configuration of [Related Parent] and in the right side navigate to the Record ID field if the Parent. But I’m guessing as to what you want to accomplish here and what would be the trigger for the Actiion to fire.
