I am trying to calculate the total of a specific field based on a filter, in a report.How can we accomplish this task?

To further explain my question- I have 200 student cases. I am trying to get the summary in a report- 1. Total number of cases, 2. total number of cases with error, 3. Total number of cases with no documentation. All this have to be in a  report.
Please suggest.

I suggest making a formula text field called [Error?] on records which will evaluate to "Error" or No Error". Same for [Documentation?].

Then make a summary report which is Group By [Error?]
The set the column grouping to be by [Documentation?]
