I need commas to show up as a user is typing a number into a currency field. Is this possible?

A field in one of my forms is used to ask users to put in dollar amounts. Sometimes these dollar amounts get to be pretty big and people mistakenly put in incorrect values because their isn't anything separating the orders of magnitude. I.e - 600,000 instead of 6,000,000 or visa versa.

With that being said, Id like there to be a way to put in commas to make it less confusing for users when they are entering in the numbers. Is this possible?

Thanks

Hello Brian,

During the edit process, when a user is typing in a field, there's no way for quickbase to format as he types.  However, once he saves the record, quickbase can then display the value he inputted as a monetary value or other.  This is done by editing the fields properties and selecting currency as the number type.  Once you have currency selected, there are a number of formatting options, including comma_dot, which is the "600,000.00" formatting you are looking for.

Everything above is based on my knowledge, so there may be a third party plugin which you can get, but I am not aware of any.

Hello,

The field is set to insert the separators once the record is saved, but that doesn't really help them much as they type. In the currency field you can have the decimal places separated by commas. Its just strange that it doesn't show up until it is saved.

Unfortunately that's just the way quickbase works.  Until the user types in their data and either clicks out of the box or saves the record, quickbase treats that field's data as null.

Brian,
Here is an idea.  You can make a mirror field to your Currency field as a formula and put is beside the input field and show that only in add/edit mode.  Then at least when the user jumps out of the field, even before saving, they will see what their data entry looks like.

By a "mirror field" I just mean a formula of [my data entry field]
