Is it possible to change the default access level of individual fields to View instead of Modify for roles created at a later time?

When creating a new role, that role automatically gets granted "Modify" access to a field that was set to have role-level permissions (using the "Restrict access by role" functionality).

Setting role permissions at the field level works fine for roles that already exist in the application at the time that the field access levels are set; however, whenever a new role is created down the road, that new role will automatically get Modify rights to the restricted field.

This is a potential security issue, especially when the field has very tight access permission, as in the case where only 1 role is supposed to have Modify rights, while the rest of them are either View or None.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Did you try making a Copy of an existing Role as a shortcut?

Hi Juan,

At this time when new roles are created they will have full access to fields even though View/Modify for tables will be set to none by default. You can quickly turn field access to view by checking the check box next to field label. This will select all the fields and you can change them all to view. If you would like field access to be set to view by default I would suggest you post in our user feedback forum. We take user feedback very seriously and aim to implement as many things as possible into our future releases. You can post your idea here, https://quickbase.uservoice.com/forums/111823-quickbase-product-feedback
