Create a formula text field referencing the field with the formula below:

If([FIELD NAME]="","Its Blank","I have data in here")

Thank you for your answer.
Unfortunately that does not seem to be working.  I have attempted to use this formula: If([FIELD NAME]=" ","N","Y") in another field and it is setting everything to "Y" even though the field is empty.  I was wondering if it is because it is a multi-line field?

Try it without the space: ="" <--- this means blank, this =" " <---- means contains a space in the field

If([FIELD NAME]="","N","Y")

Thank you!  That worked great.  I should have thought of that myself.

Just to chime in, when I check for blank in a text field I usually do

if(Trim([my field])="", "my field is blank")

That way if there are some rogue spaces in the data entry field they will be ignored.
