Is there a way to make a lookup field editable in a subtable on a form?

I'm building an app to keep track of assets that are shipped to customer jobs.  I have a Asset Master Table that keeps the serial numbers, status and other information on the assets, a Job Table that keeps track of the customer jobs, and a Shipment table that keeps track of the Shipping transactions.  The Shipment table is related to the Serial Numbers from the Asset Table to pick Assets that are available to ship.  The Job Table is linked to the Shipment table to keep track of the Assets that were shipped to and from that job.

I want to have the Shipment Table displayed as a subtable on the Job entry form and be able to select the Asset serial numbers in that subtable.  However, when I try to do that, quickbase gives me a message that lookup fields are not editable.

Is there a way to work around this?

Hey Gary,

You're completely correct; lookup fields are not editable.  They're derived from the parent table so in order to make any changes you would need to go into the parent table and make the changes there.

John-

In this case, I'm not trying to change the field.  I'm just trying to link to that field in the subtable by getting to the record picker without needing to open the individual record in the subtable.  Is there any way to do that?
