I'd like to link up records in two tables with hundreds of records where there was no prior relationship, but both use the same field for COMPANY NAME.  I know you can do it via Report Link or going into each record and selecting the COMPANY NAME in the linked table, BUT is there a way I can have it automatically match up anything with the same exact COMPANY NAME?  I've never been able to figure out how to do this, except I think I may've accidentally done it once by creating a relationship where the key field was not a record ID but an actual COMPANY NAME type field.

Yes. You make a relationship. To do that you would need to change the Key field of one if the tables to Company Name.
