Multiple Roles access to url links between dashboards

I have two Roles/Groups, Admin and Finance. Finance is nested with Admin, Admin has the priority role and most users only have access to the Admin group.

I have created a url button on the Admin dashboard to go to the Finance dashboard where more reports can be accessed for the Finance only people. But is there a way to prevent the Admin group from having access to the Finance dashboard (or the url button on the Admin dashboard) in the first place?

Thanks.

Hey Linda,

My name is Cam from the QuickBase Success team. I would be happy to help. So you can control field level permissions and give the admin role no access to that formula url button and that should do the trick. The custom field access is the last row in role permissions as shown here:

Thank you for using QuickBase Linda

Hi Cameron,

Thanks for replying, but maybe I could have worded it better.  This is for a url button that I've created via the html on the dashboard rather than a field formula url button.  Can you code role access to those buttons as well - given that I have two roles (one a subset of the other) viewing the same dashboard?

Thanks

If you've selected both roles to access the same dashboard you cannot show a hyperlink to only one of those roles. The only way to accomplish that would be to design two dashboards, and display one for your Admin role, and the other for your Finance role. The Admin role could then have the hyperlink to view the Finance dashboard. Please see this help topic for further details: https://www.quickbase.com/user-assistance/default.html#configure_role_interface.html#Set_the_applica...

Thanks for the reply Eric.  This is essentially what I've done but both Admin and Finance can still see the hyperlink /url button on the Admin dashboard, just Admin can't view any reports once they get to the Finance dashboard, but they can still get to the Finance dashboard.  I was wondering if there was a  bit of code I could add to the url button (in the html section of the dashboard)  that allows only Finance to see the link?
Thanks.

At the dashboard level the only difference you can make to individual roles is to have separate dashboards for the two roles. It's only on a form where you can create a rule that says "when the user is in the Finance role, hide the XXXXXX field".

Ok - thanks Eric for clarifying that.  If it can't be done, I'll stop looking for a solution!

I'm sure you've found a work around by now but did you consider having the group with Finance access have that as their Home Screen and then linking to the Admin screen only on the Finance home page? If they needed to get back to the Finance reports they would use their Home link instead of a link on the Admin Dash but would still have all the permissions of the higher role and access to the Admin Dashboard. This is not the best but my current work around.
