Searching by a specific field within a report

Hello! Is there a way to do more specific searches within a report? For example, I have a table that tracks communication with teachers, and I'd like to search for all communication to or from John Smith. The field I want to search by is called "Teacher Name." It feels like I should be able to write in the search bar something like: "{Teacher Name}=John Smith". When I just search using "John Smith", I get the relevant records plus a bunch of other records where John Smith was referenced in the body of the email (which is another field) but weren't actually to or from him.

I know about filters, but in this instance, I have so many teachers that Quick Base won't let me filter by their names. Plus, there are only 5 filters allowed, and it would be nice to quickly search by specific criteria rather than editing the report to change the filter.

    Thank you!

Have you tried the magnifying glass icon at the top when you are on a table.  It allows for selecting fields to search.

When I click on the magnifying glass, nothing happens. But I'm the admin -- is there something I can enable?

Maybe there is a pop up blocked catching that pop up search box.  Look for maybe a red icon near your URL address bar

Thank you for the suggestion! I use Chrome, and I don't see the "popup blocked" icon. I also just tried it with Firefox, and didn't see any sort of "popup blocked" message there. So I think it's an issue within Quick Base, not the browser.

The top right of your screen should have the round +, then a a star, then  the Search magnifying glass, then the ? for help and then ! for Alerts and then your name.

Which of those do you have?  If none, then you have turned on a setting in the App Settings for Branding  "Hide Quick Base standard menu options"

Thanks so much for helping me figure this out. I have all of those icons in the upper right.

Is it possible that someone a level above me has turned this off? I built the apps that my team is using, but I work at a graduate school, and I'm not the administrator of the account for the entire school. I could ask the account administrator to adjust something, but I'd want to make sure I know what I'm asking him to do.

    Thanks again!

There is a setting on the User Interface Tab for Role Permissions

    Hide UI for:
    App & table settings
    Users
    Favorites & Recents
    Search
    Help
Test as another role or user

Your Role must be disabled for Search

    Disabled meaning unchecked, right?

I tried checking and unchecking it and unfortunately, neither one seemed to enable the magnifying glass within reports.

I've attached a screenshot in case it's helpful. Thank you!

Maybe we are just not understanding each other.

Do you have the magnifying glass at the top beside the star?

Did you try an advanced search to select a field to search on?

Yes, I think we're talking about two different magnifying glasses.

I originally thought you meant this one, which displays within a specific report:

But now I think you are talking about this one, in the upper right corner:

But if I click on the upper right corner, it takes me out of my report and searches my entire table for a specific field.

I'd like to search within my report. It feels like I should be able to do a more specific search within the search box in the first of my two screenshots. Going back to my original example, it feels like I should be able to search something like "{Teacher Name}=John Smith" ("Teacher Name" being the field name) rather than just "John Smith." Is there any way to do a more advanced search within a report?

    Thank you!

OK, at least we are now understanding each other.
You would need to make a new report with an <ask the user> filter or make a Dashboard search element on the dashboard of the app to search based on a search limited to a specific report.  The report would just be limited to a few fields.

Okay. I didn't know about the <ask the user> filter, which isn't exactly what I was looking for, but I think it's close enough to serve my needs. Thank you very much for your time and for telling me about it!
