User names assigned based on the current user, need to add numeric field type that relays the user number...not a lookup but numeric formula?

When my employees fill out a time card, it assigns the name based on the user. To work a few relationships and reports, I need to create a field that looks to that user name and returns the user number. I need the field type to be numeric. Anyone know a formula that will work for that?

What "number" are you looking for? The QuickBase User ID that you see when you export to Excel; or just a numeric value (like an Employee ID)?

If you need a numeric value - you could try one of two things. One would be to create a simple formula:

Case(true,

[User Field]=ToUser("emailaddress.com"),1,

[User Field]=ToUser("emailaddress2.com"),2

)

Alternatively, create a table to store your Users; which also stores these numeric values as data fields within that table. Then build a relationship from that table to your time-card entry table and each time the User selects themselves; the Numeric field value becomes a lookup from that source tabl.
