I created a summary field (maximum) on a date field. I want to use this as the reference field in a reverse lookup between two tables( Projects and TSC disposition). This date summary field is not available as a reference field when I try to build the relationship, is this because its not a numeric field? Is there a work around? I want to use this date field to identify the latest record rather than the record id.

Right, so just do a lookup of that maximum date field down to your child table. Call it say [Maximum date of all xxxxx's]
Then do one more summary of the maximum (or minimum [record id#] subject to the extra filter that the date = [Maximum date of all xxxxx's]. Call that field [Record ID# of the xxx with the highest date]

Then now you have a field called [Record ID# of the xxx with the highest date]. Give it a good name like that so you will know what it is.

THEN, do your reverse relationship.
