I have a task that has 200 components. Each component takes 3.5 minutes to complete. What is the formula to populate a column with the average time it takes to complete the entire task?

Can you give some details of what the tables / fields are like for your Tasks / Components?
e.g. Is each Task a single record, with Components as related child records?
Or do you have some of these as fields # of Components, Time to Complete Component?
It would be helpful to give an example of the calculation e.g. what should the answer be for your example with 200 components, and 3.5 minutes to complete each component? (Are Components completed sequentially, or in parallel? Are you calculating from the earliest completion time to the latest? etc.)

Hi Xavier, basically, I have a field that states that there are "x" number of sites associated with a particular project. We are running a beta test to see how long it takes an individual to input the information for each site. They will have a start time and an end time. I need to populate a column that gives an average time spent for the entire project. Does that make sense?

Ok say you have a field called [# of Sites] where you put in the "x" number of sites associated with a particular project.
Do you have another field, say [Time to Complete], where you put in the time needed to complete each site?
For the total time spend on the project [Total Time to Complete] would it be [# of Sites] x [Time to Complete]?
e.g.
[# of Sites] = 200
[Time to Complete] = 3.5 minutes
Then [Total Time to Complete] = 200 x 3.5 minutes = 700 minutes
Where does the average come in?
(or am I missing something?)

Sorry, I suppose I forgot a major part. In the beta test there will be four people running the same project. I believe I know how to get the total times they spend on the project but I will need to get an average of their times in the column so I can have a better understanding of how long it takes to do said project.

If you're looking for an average of their [Total Time to Complete], and each person is on a separate record, then you can show the average in the report:
1) Go to field properties for [Total Time to Complete]
2) Under Numeric field options > Totals and averages > check "Display an average of this field in reports"
Then you'll see an "AVG" row at the bottom report, which would show the average for [Total Time to Complete] for these 4 records.
