I have a table that I am trying to use the "Save as a spreadsheet" function. When I save it as a .csv file, some of the fields only have half of the information that is in the table. Any idea what may be happening?

What do you mean by the fields having half the information.  You mean that you have say 100 records, and for a certain field only 50 records have data in their column?

Sorry for the confusion.  All of my fields have data in them, but may of them seem to have only half of the data exported.  For example, in QuickBase, I have a field that consists of a sentence, but when use the Save As A Spreadsheet function, some of the fields do not have the full sentence anymore in the spreadsheet.

For the ones which are truncated, can you tell me how many characters are in the cell.  You can add a column and do a =LEN(A1) type formula on it.  I seem to recall that there is a limit on the length of a text field, so I'm wondering if they are getting cut off at 1,000 characters or 1,024 characters ie a very magic number.

One particular cell that I am having trouble with only has 44 characters in it.  Would it matter if there are some lines that begin with a "=" or "-"?

I really don't know, so i will back out from this thread, and watch from the sidelines on where you end up - maybe someone else knows or you may need to put in a Support Ticket.

Thanks for your time QuickBaseCoach.  Hopefully somebody else out there may be able to shed some light.

Hi Michael,

At this point I think it would be helpful for you to go to Help > Manage Support Cases > + New Support Case so one of our customer care specialists can take a look at the specific table with you and see what's going on when you export it.

Thanks,
Brian

What did you find?

I experience this with multi-line text fields that have more than a sentence or two.

Setting the field to not wrap helped some, but it does not export the full text in the field.

This is a problem when we are keeping notes on how we work with a record and then share our findings with someone via a spreadsheet (they do not want to work from a report in the QuickBase.)

Hi David,

We actually did not end up receiving a ticket about this, so we were not able to investigate the details. If you can go ahead and open a support case so we can look into the incorrect export behavior.

Thanks!

Hi Brian,

I'm just now seeing your note.

I just did a test and it appears that this issue has been resolved.

I typed in several notes with logging and was able to include much more text than was truncated a few months ago.

Good news!
