Making a task start x num of days after it's predecessor

I've been using the predecessor fields for some time now with good results. But a recent request was to change their functionality slightly, to still make a task not start before it's predecessor, but always start x number of days after its predecessor is completed instead of on the same day. Is there a way to make this happen?

    I have not tested this, but when you configure a Predecessor  field you set the field which represents the start date and  the end date.  Try making a new field of type Formula WorkDate which adds extra days to your existing Finish date, with a formula of WorkDateAdd([End Date],2)

    then use that new field in the setting fir the Predecessor field
