Notifications to distribution groups (Outlook DGs)

Is there a way to enable a notification to email an Outlook DG? I have tried:
  • creating an email formula field with the address using the open permissions
  • making the email a user email field to send as a recipient
  • Adding it directly as a specific user recipient email

All these methods worked with an individual email but won't send to a DG.

Does QB allow emails to DGs?

Thanks for any assistance!
Ed

I suggest checking with the Care Team to confirm that your Realm is set to allow email notifications to non users.  When accounts sign up for Quickbase they default to blocking sending notifications externally out of the organization.

Thanks Mark. The DG is internal to the company but our company QB Administrators told me it requires some magic on the admin side to create a group from our master employee record so I can use it to send a notification.

I understand that the DG members are internal, but if the DG email address is not a "User", then that is sending to an external email as far as Quickbase is concerned.

  • Just a thought, as I ran into something similar apart from Quickbase.
A Microsoft365 admin needs to set the distribution group to allow emails from outside sources.  Since your tests with individual recipients works, I'm guessing the issue is on receiving end.

I agree with Andrea!  I realize now that I have a client who blocks potential spam by blocking the use of DGs  by outside sources.

Thank you both for the insight. Our admin told me that the DG needs to be registered as a paid seat in QB and then added as an authorized app user. DGs are blocked from sending via outside source but by adding it as an authorized company QB "user" they can allow it.
