Fiscal Year and Months across the realm

I believe this is a conceptual question, that likely ends up in app design basics.   I am going to have LOTS of apps across my entire organization, a local municipality.  Many reports will be based...

I think the answer is easy. You just need to create a field on any of your detail record tables where you might want to filter by fiscal year and make a formula that calculates like  

FY22

FY23

FY24

Then you have an easy dynamic filter for your users.
