Changing a related field to blank?

When I use a dynamic form rule to change a related field to blank, it simply does not work. Does anyone else have this issue? Is it not simply:

If Condition exists
Then Change Related field to the value, blank

??

    Update: My rule was trying to fire based on a summary field that would change, however the 'fire when changed' checkbox was hindering it. I think the change was technically made before i ended back on the form, so the dynamic rule would not fire.
