Changing an existing Pipeline to a Called Pipeline

I proudly built a complex Pipeline with about a dozen steps including a few "for each" loops.  But then I found out that the Pipeline needs to be run every few hours at specific times of the day.  While I see that there is an easy way to copy a Pipeline, I do not want to maintain 6 copies of the Pipeline if I need to make change later.

So what I want is to be able to Call this complex Pipeline with a simple Pipeline who's job it is to wake up on a schedule and call my complex Pipeline.

There is an incredibly helpful short video posed by Josh Weeman here of how to call a Pipeline from a pipeline.

But my problem is that it will not let me drag the Pipeline Called Channel to my existing pipeline.  I can easily set the first Step of a new Pipeline to be the called Pipeline Channel, but for an existing one that Channel is greyed out.

How can i convert my pipeline to be able to be callable?

  • I received this answer from Support

"Once a step has been created, you can't add anything before it."

So I will go to Plan B and duplicate my complex pipeline 6 times and carefully name the "gold" copy and the duplicates.

Two years later.... Found this while attempting to do the same... my solution is to create a trigger checkbox on my record that the simple pipeline can wake up on a schedule and toggle to trigger the huge complex pipeline. I set all my pipelines to always trigger "on new event" so I can go back in and have more flexibility with what actually triggers them.
