Copying a date field from a child record to a parent

So I have a need to copy a date record up from a child record to a parent record. I can't seem to find a good way to do this easily... I considered an automation, but it seems like those are a little slower to fire. Is there another solution I'm not considering?

  • I don't suppose you ca just use a summary field and maybe an override field on the parent. Then it would instantly recalculate on save.

Not sure I've ever seen that. How would I use a summary field on a date?

        Something like this.
When the dates changes and it should be a timestamp type date you could create an extra date field to stamp the date in the child table and freeze it with the snapshot function
