Disable Record Editing via formula?

Hey guys and gals, another unique question.

Can we disable the ability to edit a single record with a formula, say in data validation?  We need something that works outside of a form, hence no dynamic form rule.  Can we totally remove the ability to edit a record based on a formula?  As in, remove the pencil icon from a report so they can only view until the formula requirements are met to allow editing?

Thanks

  • If your permissions need to be complex, sure. You would just need to identify your criteria and set it up in a Formula Checkbox field so that if all the criteria is met, the result is TRUE. Then, for those User Roles that should be limited, you would change that Role's Permissions on EDIT so that your Checkbox field has to be TRUE.

If your criteria isn't complex and only one or two things need to be true, you can build that directly in the Custom Permission setup of the Role Permissions.
