How do I stop my append-only fields from being truncated when exporting to Excel?

[The Quick Base Knowledge Base is your library of frequently-asked questions that help you better customize your apps to solve your business problems.]

'Append Only' fields that have the "Show the name and date on their own line" setting turned on do not export to Excel correctly because they contain the leading dashes. Data gets cut off because Excel sees the leading dash and reads it as a numeric field which has a limited size. If you change the Append Only field to "Show the name and date on the same line as the entry" under Log Entries, it does not put leading dashes and solves the problem going forward. To fix existing data, you need to uncheck "Log edits to this field", manually remove the leading dashes from each record, then turn logging back on, choosing the "Show the name and date on the same line as the entry" setting. There is some risk that a user may enter data while the Append Only is turned off which you need to be aware of.
