Map Report from Summary Data?

I am trying to create a Map Report that shows the Quantity of assets (records).  Each location could have dozens, if not hundreds, of asset records so individual pins for each record is time consuming to render the map, and unnecessary.  Is there a way to use data from a summary report as the data for a map report?

    No problem.

    Make your perfect Map report with no filters.  I suggest hiding this report from all Roles.

    Then on a Summary report configuration screen, at the bottom, there is an option as to what report to use for the drill down.  So sure drill down from a summary report into any report, including a map report.

    Build your report on the "Locations" table, and create a summary field that counts the number of "assets" and just display that value on the pin in the Map report.

    The drill down using map report worked, but I was wanting to have the map on a dashboard; which I don't think is possible using that method.

    @Matthew - your solution worked perfectly.  Doesn't allow a drill-down into the assets at that location, but that's ok, i have a table elsewhere on the dashboard that allows drilling into details.  Thanks!
