Multi Text with more than 50 choices?

Scenario:
Company table with hundreds of entries.
Bid table with multi text field linked to company names.
Since going above the 50 limit I cannot make any changes to the bid field and get error
stating "Multi text limited to 50 entries".
I am still able to select multiple companies when creating a new bid but I need to make some changes to the field and it will not allow me to do so.

    I've gotten this error before.  There is a bug with these fields if you use a list from another table, and one of those items has more then 40 characters. 

    You can open a support case, but I got rid of it but making sure my source field didn't have anything with more than 40 characters.  

    Its odd, I know.

    Curious,  Are you using this field to assign bids to companies, and will you need reporting off of "assigned bids"?  Or are you using this for just a reference of who that bid is out to?
