Open specific tab on a form based on the status?

I have a form with a dozen tabs, each being a part of the sales process.  Is there a way for a user to be taken to a specific tab when opening the form based on their current status (lead, discovery, ...

As far as I know, there is no way to land a user on a tab, and it's a long desired feature. However, I am going to keep poking my head back in on this post, hoping I am wrong and someone gives you a way!
