Pipeline Formula

I would like to create a formula to populate one of the fields in my pipeline and am not seeing how to format properly.
I have tried {{a.quantity_built}}*{{b.Quantity}} as well as {{a.quantity_built*b.Quantity}} but am getting an error.  (The pipeline works when I type in numeric values)
