Record ID in a url: numeric vs. alphanumeric?

I am accustomed to referencing a record by "rid" in formula url as in "...quickbase.com/db/xxxxxx?a=dr&rid=72&rl=bnxx". Viewing that same record from a table report (eyeball icon) pulls up the same record using the url "...quickbase.com/db/xxxxxxxx?a=dr&r=ci&rl=bnyc". So, two ways to refer the same record: "r=y" and "rid=72".
Can anyone explain this?

    The normal Base 10 system we use was invented in the 5th century. It has 10 digits.

    I suspect the other notation you refer to such as r=y, is Base 36, invented more recently. It seems to use lower case alpha, so 26 characters, plus the 10 digits = 36.
