Record Picker

I have one table that contains certificate numbers and then I have another table that has customers.  When adding or editing a customer, you can use the record picker to select the certificate that the customer is calling in about.  How can I then lock that certificate so that it cannot be selected again by another customer?  What I am running into, is more than one customer has the same certificate chosen, which cannot be possible.

    np,
    you have the Relationship. 
    One Certificate has Many Customers. 


    Make a summary to count customers. 


    Make a report called Available certificates filtered where [# customers] =0

    set the form to use that report for the drop down field on the form.
