Introduction I am pleased to introduce a significant tool that we are releasing in Quickbase called Performance Insights. This will help builders of Quickbase apps diagnose and resolve performance hotspots within minutes, without getting a PhD in software architecture. I want to share why this is such a big deal and the unique challenges that we face at Quickbase when it comes to performance. What makes Quickbase special? I joined Quickbase more than 20 years ago as an early engineer. Over the course of those twenty years, I've had the great opportunity to work on many of the core features. Even after all that time, I'm constantly amazed by the vision of the founders. You can hear more from the founders, who I was lucky to have worked with, towards the end of this keynote. That vision was both bold and simple – let anyone (not just computer scientists) build applications of any level of complexity without writing code. The software will do all the heavy lifting, hide all the complexity
Hi, I added the values of a field in a summary table. Now I need to compare that summarized total number to another number in another table...How do I make a report and do this formula?Thanks.------------------------------Joe Blouin------------------------------
Hello, Quickbase Community! Or as they say in the UK... Hiya, you alright?I’m Caroline Stuart-Freas, a new Senior Customer Success Manager based in London. That is right, Quickbase is going international! We have a growing team of new Quickbasers that have been hired outside of the USA and it’s very exciting to be a part of this team as the company expands. A few facts about me: I’m an American living in the UK. I’ve been here for 4.5 years. My son was born here and has a British accent. So, he says things like “Mummy, I am going to throw this rubbish in the bin” which is very weird but, it’s adorable. I even say certain things now like trousers instead of pants. I’ve been doing Customer Success at Saas tech companies for ~15 years. Most of my career was working in the tech non-profit/charity space. I’ve worked with all sorts of different organisations of different shapes and sizes in the USA, UK, and Europe. I have lived in 8 different cities, 2 states, 1 District (of Columbi
We all know that in the world of software, things move pretty fast. If you’ve been keeping up with all the recent product releases here at Quickbase then you’ll certainly agree that we’re no exception! For the most part, all that speed is typically a good thing, but we’ve learned that if you don’t stop once in a while, you can miss things. That’s why we make the conscious choice to periodically stop and take stock of how all these new product updates are working for you, our customers. Over the last year, we’ve listened to feedback from many of you about different aspects of the Workflow Automation and Integration capabilities that are supported by our Pipelines technology. One theme that has come through clearly is that Quickbase customers need to be able to move fast too, and that requires tools that make it easier to manage and govern Pipelines at scale. We recognize that each of your organizations has its own unique IT ecosystem and policies, and it’s clear that this means that

I want to create a button, that when checked it opens a specific field from a different table. Once the selection in that field is made it will then send a webhook to Zapier to trigger an email So A button is added to my order. If the button is selected I want it to prompt the user to select a value from the template ID field ( This is a multi-choice field and goes from 1- 6). The template ID field sits in a different App ( No objections to it sitting in the same App) . Can anyone tell me the best way to add this?------------------------------Kelly Grewar------------------------------
A client of ours is requesting a button to send bulk emails linked to a specific Sendgrid template. So essentially they want to open an order/report and have a button on said order that will allow them to select a template out of Sendgrid and email it to the customer. Has anyone had this issue and is it possible? P.s. I have set up a Zapier call but it only has 1 trigger and the customer wants to do it on the fly, so Zapier is not exactly what they need------------------------------Kelly Grewar------------------------------
Mixed Encoding Scanner now available to help identify issues with UTF-8 data When the Quickbase platform first emerged on the market, it was targeted primarily at US customers. However, there has always been innovative app builders in many countries who have used our platform with non-English data. We are making product improvements to better serve those builders and to expand Quickbase internationally. One of these improvements is a new UTF-8 setting to ensure non-English character sets can be stored and viewed properly. In some cases, a user may have entered non-English characters into the system while the UTF-8 switch was turned off, or prior to the existence of the UTF-8 switch. This would result in characters being saved in the system without proper character encoding. We refer to this as "mixed character encoding," which can lead to inconsistent results (e.g., displaying, sorting, filters, etc) when the UTF-8 switch is enabled later. We’re happy to announce our new Mixed Encodin
Improvements to Quick Base University Quick Base University is rolling out a new interface that makes it easier for application builders to access and consume the training they need to build successful applications. The improvements are a direct result of feedback from our customers. We regularly speak with customers about their training experience and review the survey results submitted with each course. Additionally, a recent job task analysis helped us understand what features and functions of Quick Base were most important to app builders. What will I see upon logging in? The changes look similar to the current visual layout. New branded graphics were added and the courses will be organized to reflect our revised curriculum. Hello, there! The team at Quickbase University wants our community to know that our current free certification exam promotion is ending. We want to make sure that, as the end of the year approaches, you take advantage of this great offer if you can. Here is a simple FAQ to get you the information quickly: What’s happening? The free exam promo code “qbcares”, which has been active for the calendar year of 2021 for our existing exams, will cease to function on Dec 31st, 2021 and will not be renewed for 2022. Why is this happening? Offering this promotion code was one way that Quickbase chose to support our community during the COVID-19 crisis by allowing you to have one free exam attempt for a limited time. Now that normalcy is slowly returning globally, this promotion is coming to its end.Why do I need to know this now? We’d like to remind everyone of the promotion code while it’s still active, so you can take advantage of it. If you’ve considered attempting our Builder, Expert, or Comb
This feature allows formulas to operate on data from other records or other tables in the same app – no relationship needed. This feature is perfect for intermediate and advanced builders with some experience with formulas. In this article, you’ll learn how you can use formula queries to solve more problems in Quickbase while using fewer tables and relationships. Table of Contents Why we're focusing on formulas Background on formulas The challenge How formula queries help Who should use formula queries How to build a formula query Where relationships fit in Query performance Learn more Why we’re focusing on formulas Quickbase enables business users to build and iterate on custom apps, analyze data, and integrate with systems of record. We’ve seen companies deploy solutions on the Quickbase platform in days which would take months on other platforms. But the best part is that these apps can be updated with ease as business needs change. One of the ways we enable this kind of innovati
New dashboards are now generally available Our goal here at Quickbase is to help companies achieve operational agility. That enables you to be more responsive to your customers, more engaging to your employees, and making your business as adaptable as possible to what’s next. Quickbase Insights is what we call the set of capabilities that help you unlocks real-time reporting and operational insights across teams, processes, and disparate systems securely. Quickbase Insights is key to achieving operational agility, and that’s why we’ve focused so much of our product innovation in this area recently. We just reached general availability for our new table report, which helps your apps’ users get their work done faster. We’ll soon be starting a beta program for our slide-out report builder, allowing you to customize a report without jumping to another page. We’re also re-defining what’s possible with formulas, through our new aggregation options for summary reports (available now) and the
Give Your Apps a Tune-Up using the Performance Optimizer We are proud to announce the availability of our new Performance Optimizer. This is a tool which you can run to scan a Quickbase app for performance optimizations. And the best part is that we can apply those changes to your app with a single click. This feature will be added in our September 2021 product release. (The Performance Optimizer is available on Enterprise plans only.) Background Over its 20+ year history, creative app builders have consistently pushed the limits of what’s possible with the Quickbase platform. Whether it’s apps with conditional fields that summarize data based on millions of child and grandchild records, or types of relationships that we had never dreamed of, this community of builders continues to inspire us every day. And what many of you have been able to achieve in hours or days using Quickbase would be impossible on other platforms without years of effort and massive investment on the part

If you’ve ever used JavaScript to modify UI or enable a non-native workflow in a Quickbase app, this post is for you. We know that adding custom code to an application can be a valuable way to extend Quickbase. However, we need to provide this capability in a secure and supportable way. To that end, Quickbase provides the ability to use custom code in code pages. On the other hand, we also see builders inserting custom code into places it was never intended to be used. To improve the security and stability of the platform, we are changing the way Quickbase handles custom code. Specifically, we are changing how the platform handles JavaScript and unsupported HTML tags in places other than code pages. Code pages are where custom code has always been supported, and we encourage app builders to insert i
Hi Everyone,I am facing issue in injecting my custom code page. Earlier it was working fine and was getting saved , but now when i am trying to save this field it is giving error as shown in image attached for your reference.Could you please help me to find a solution for same.------------------------------Adis Kljajic------------------------------
Building Table-to-Table (T2T) Imports using Pipelines Introduction You may have used automations to trigger a Quickbase table-to-table (T2T) import. You can achieve a similar outcome in a pipeline using actions available in the Quickbase channel’s Bulk Record Sets category. This method has some advantages over using automations to trigger an import, such as the ability to choose values in a multiple-choice field. Overview Overview of example pipeline The basic T2T pipeline has the following steps: Step A: Prepare Bulk Record Upsert - identifies your destination table. “Upsert” is short for "update or insert". The behavior is similar to that of an import. Based on a matching unique identifier, records that already exist are updated and new records are created. Step B: Search the Records and identify the source table Then, for each record found : Step C: Add Bulk Upsert Row – prepares the found records to be upserted Step D: Commit Upsert – import the records from Step B into
Hello,There is a discussion regarding the future behavior of Formula fields,Often we need to perform sequential operations using the Quickbase API's like API_EditRecord, API_PurgeRecords etc. In some requirements we often need to perform the 2nd API call only after the 1st one has completed. Since the JavaScript is going to be prohibited anywhere other than QB code pages we would need another way to perform such an operation. An example of this kind of operation:This is the code of field type "URL (formula)" which shows as a button.var text url_1 =URLRoot() & "db/" &Dbid()& "?a=API_EditRecord" &"&rid=" & [Record ID#] &"&apptoken=xxxxxxxxxx" &"&_fid_9987=" & [Current User];var text url_2 =URLRoot() & "db/" &Dbid()& "?a=API_EditRecord" &"&rid=" & [Record ID#] &"&apptoken=xxxxxxxxxx" &"&_fid_889=clear";If([Prod Status]="Done","javascript:" & "$.get('" & $url_1 & "',\nfunction(){" &"$.get('"
I have some big problems. I need to hide native buttons on mobile, as well as other QB features, and I don't know how to do it without IOL. This is what we all used it for. My issue is I have an EOTI role that needs to save using my custom buttons, in order to direct them down the application path. However, despite my role management, form management / rules, etc, QB has seen it fit that the native buttons (and their app pimping) MUST show. I need to hide this ASAP, as this launch is already late. Help!!!------------------------------Meredith Moore------------------------------
Changes to the Automations Feature in Quickbase For the most up to date information on our Automations End of Support and Retirement plan please refer to our most recent post which you can find here. We’d like to take a moment to share some news about our plans for the future of the Automations feature in Quickbase. If you are using the Quickbase Automations Feature in any of your Quickbase Apps today, or are planning to create a new Automation in the near future, then this post is for you.Workflow automation has taken many forms in Quickbase over the years. Whether it’s been a simple email notification, a dynamic form rule, or even a complex script triggered by a Webhook, one thing that’s clear is that workflow automation is only going to increase in importance for customers and use cases of all kinds. To meet those evolving requirements, we have spent the last year growing and improving the workflow automation capabilities of our powerful new Pipelines technology. Now, as we contin
Hello Quickbase Community! My name is John Karas and I'm a Product Manager here at Quickbase. I'm super excited to share with you that on Tuesday April 27th, we launched our Platform Analytics feature into general availability! All customers who are on New plans (anyone with Read entitlements in their contract) will now receive this feature as part of their subscription. Since I started at Quickbase in 2018, I’ve continuously heard how customers wanted more visibility into how their no-code innovation ecosystem is being used. Quickbase can be used for just about any process you want track, improve, extend, or report on, so the idea of being able to see insights into what is occurring across all your Apps, all your Users, and all your Connections is something that really resonated with all the customers I’ve talked with in my experience. In early 2020, we embarked on the journey to achieving this vision. Our Design and User Experience (UX) team developed initial sketches of what th
Supercharging Summary Reports with New Aggregation Options Quickbase helps businesses overcome tough process challenges every day. We do this by giving citizen developers the right tools to perfect their team’s unique processes. One of those tools is summary reports, making it easy for you to present complex business metrics organized by category. However, if you’ve worked extensively with summary reports you may notice some calculations not working as you expect. We’ve introduced a new report feature called summary formulas, to allow you to perform calculations on aggregated data without needing to create additional tables. The Averages of Averages Problem When you use a report formula on a summary report, Quickbase first performs your calculation for each individual record. Then the result is aggregated. However, for many types of data analysis, it’s actually the reverse that’s needed. First, each set of data should be aggregated and then the calculation should be performed on the
